Overview

What is Class IV laser therapy and how does it work?

Our LightForce® Class IV Medical Grade laser delivers therapeutic light deep into muscles, joints, ligaments, nerves, and tendons. It is the only therapeutic laser powerful enough to target the deep tissue and disc of the spine. At a cellular level, the laser energy stimulates mitochondrial activity, the part of the cell that produces ATP. More ATP means faster tissue repair, reduced inflammation, improved circulation, and measurable pain relief.

The science has a name: photobiomodulation. It is well-studied, FDA-cleared, and backed by orthopedic and sports-medicine research. Athletes, physical therapists, and chiropractors have been using Class IV laser for more than a decade to accelerate healing without drugs, injections, or surgery.

At Newman Chiropractic, laser therapy is almost never used in isolation. It is paired with targeted chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression when disc involvement is present, and focused shockwave for deeper soft tissue and tendon work. The combination is what moves the Spinal Health Score, not any one tool alone.

Research Evidence

Most of the authors reviewed in this paper report that laser therapy accelerates the tissue repair process by altering cell behavior and enhancing vascular formation.

The Mechanism

How Class IV laser therapy reduces inflammation and accelerates healing

The effect happens at the cellular level. Class IV laser light penetrates the skin and stimulates the mitochondria inside cells, the structures responsible for energy production. As mitochondrial activity increases, cells generate more ATP, repair themselves faster, and recover function more quickly. Circulation improves around the treated tissue, which delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the area, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, the chemical signals that drive pain and swelling, are reduced.

That is why Class IV laser is so effective for the conditions that have refused to heal on their own. Inflammation calms, tissue is given the resources it needs to repair, and the underlying healing process is supported instead of suppressed.

Research Evidence
